It's Never Too Late To Turn Over a New Leaf

Give your employees a well-designed office space, and you could very well create a more successful company with happier and more productive employees. If you're looking to freshen up your office space this coming year, check out these simple changes that can make a world of difference.

Spot the 7 Things That Each Of The 3 People Below Have In Common (answers are at the way bottom of this post)

#1 Illuminate the Room with Light

Good light is crucial for good work. Whenever possible, let natural light pour into your workspace. To complement the light from the windows--or to serve as a substitute in windowless offices--use daylight-style bulbs. Your employees will feel more energized, and their mood will probably improve too. Take your lighting re-do a step further by selecting adjustable options, such as dimmable fixtures and shades that can be drawn. Having control over your current lighting situation gives you an improved sense of efficiency on the job.

#2 Try Out Your Green Thumb

There's one simple change that you can make to your workspace to start decreasing your stress levels right away: Bring in a plant. Ok, maybe it doesn't have to be a cactus. But did you know that potted plants in the office can reduce anxiety levels by 37%. To top it off, plants make your office a healthier place to be. They can hydrate dry skin and reduce the number of days that workers take off because of sickness. Having at least one plant for every three employees will help purify the air.

#3 Furniture, Furniture, Furniture

There is so much we can say about furniture.

  1. Furniture that is old and broken is just plain depressing.
  2. Maybe it's time to do a complete overhaul of your office space.
  3. Perhaps it's just time for a good clean.
  4. If you're not using your space to its full potential, it might be time to rearrange.
  5. One of the best things that you can do is to divide  work areas into different zones.
  • The first zone is for computer work, and it's the space where the desktop and its peripherals sit. While you're forming this area, go the extra mile by corraling your cables, which can help reduce your overall office clutter.
  • The other zone is for doing work that's not on the computer. Having meetings with clients, catching up with co-workers, talking about how long it is until the next season of Stranger Things will come out. Give your employees that space and see how happy they'll be.

  1. They are all people (that means we are not counting that they all three have ears, eyes, noses, bodies, hands etc.) And yes, we realize that technically they are drawings of people and not actual people.
  2. They all have a camera. The one guy has two cameras.
  3. They are all working at a desk. We hope they are working. They BETTER be working.
  4. They all seem to have a computer. Hopefully those are not TV screens.
  5. They all have a clock. Why is the guy at the bottom's clock not facing him? Do we really still need wall clocks in this day and age?
  6. They all have books. That must mean they are smart. Right?
  7. They are all smiling because they  have light (be it through a window or a lamp.) This is the point we are trying to drive home. Happy employees can see what they are doing. Give your employees light to keep them happy. Ask any employee if they want more light or more money and we just know what they will say. They will say: I want both. That was a fun game. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
